Winch for Forklift - A winch is a mechanical tool which specializes in winding out or pulling in or winding up or letting out the tension of a cable, wire rope, rope or a wire cable. It its most simple form it is constructed of a spool along with a connected hand crank. More complex winches are seen at the heart of machinery like tow trucks, elevators and steam shovels. Every now and then the spool can be called the winch drum. Elaborate designs have gear assemblies which can be powered by pneumatic, internal, hydraulic or electric combustion drives. Various winches could consist of a mechanical brake or a solenoid brake or a ratchet and pawl device to be able to stop it from unwinding unless the pawl is retracted.

Generally, the rope is stored on the winch. There is similar machine called a capstan that does not store the rope. The new generation of winches have been made for water and snow sports enabling the riders to be pulled quickly across a body of water or of snow. This can stimulate a riding experience that is usually supplied by a snow mobile, wave runner or a boat.
